South School Traffic Safety Rules
(Please read carefully)
All the time Rules
1. Always exercise PATIENCE. Safety is our utmost concern.
2. No parent may leave his/her car parked in the loop in front of the building AT ANY TIME.
3. NEVER put your car into reverse while in the loop. Be patient and wait for the traffic to open up.
4. RIGHT TURN ONLY exiting the parking lot onto Summer St.
5. Never drop off or pick up on Main St.
6. The riding of bicycles, skateboards, inline or roller skates are not allowed on school grounds during arrival and dismissal. Fourth and Fifth graders who have parent permission to ride a bike to school must walk their bike once on school grounds.
7. Dogs are not allowed on school grounds during arrival and dismissal.
8. Parents are encouraged to carpool or walk as much as possible to limit traffic in the area.
Arrival Rules
1. No child may arrive at school until 8:00am when staff arrive for morning duty, and school begins each day at 8:20am.
2. Cars must form a SINGLE FILE LINE through the loop, and must drop off and move out quickly along the curb so that traffic continues to flow. You may not park in the middle of the loop area at arrival time. All parking at arrival is in the basketball court area.
3. Cars must NOT stop along Main Street or Summer St. to drop off, these are very hazardous roads to stop along.
4. If you need to come inside the building, then you MUST park in the basketball court or in the actual parking lot.
5. Anyone parking in the basketball parking lot MUST VACATE the lot by 9:00am
6. NEVER “CUT” ahead in the line, form a single line TO THE RIGHT and wait for your turn to pull up to the curb.
Dismissal Rules
1. Cars may “live” park only in the fire lane during dismissal. This means you must STAY BEHIND THE WHEEL OF YOUR CAR. If emergency apparatus (Fire truck, ambulance, police vehicle) needs access to our loop, cars in the loop must be able to move out quickly.
2. Cars may NOT STOP in any other area of the loop. Cars must circle around the loop slowly until such time as a spot opens up along the curb.
3. Cars may be parked in the basketball parking lot only after 2:00pm.
