Absentee Verification

A child’s safety is the first priority of the staff at South School.
Our Absentee Verification Program is designed to account for every child absent from school.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
If your child will not be in school on any day, please call in for that day. If he/she will be late that day, please call in also. Our absentee call-in line is 781-279-3880. The phoning-in may be made between 4:00 p.m. the day before absent and until 8:30 a.m. the day of absence. This means if your child wakes up at 2 a.m. with a fever or any other reason that would keep him/her from going to school the next day -- why not call in then? The phone will be functioning all through the night. The same holds true for the weekends. You may call on Friday night, all day and night Saturday and Sunday.

When calling in:
• State your name, your child’s name, the teacher’s name and grade level, and the reason for the absence or tardiness. This will eliminate the need for an absent/tardy note being brought to school upon your child’s return.
• Also indicate the day/date expected back to school. This will eliminate daily calls if, for example, you were on vacation or your child had an extended illness, only one call is necessary.
• If for any reason, your child is not ready to return to school on the day you stated, please call again.

Afternoon kindergarten:
• Absences may be called in any time up to the beginning of the p.m. kindergarten session (11:40 a.m.).

The school office will contact the parent/guardian if the absence has not been reported. This system allows prompt action to be taken should a child fail to arrive at school. Thank you for helping to make this important program a success.
